Codasip has announced the launch of a comprehensive exploration platform aimed at speeding up the adoption of CHERI technology.

Codasip, a European RISC-V leader, has announced the release of Codasip Prime, a new exploration platform designed for the development of memory-safe and secure software. The platform is based on the Codasip X730 application core, which integrates CHERI (Capability Hardware Enhanced RISC Instructions) technology.

The Codasip Prime platform includes a high-performance FPGA system, the Codasip X730 64-bit RISC-V CHERI Application CPU, peripheral and system IP, and security IP for secure boot and secure debug. It also features CHERI-specific IP for capability tag management in DDR memory, an out-of-the-box Linux demonstration image, and a CHERI Software Development Kit.

“Our new platform is a game changer for companies in the consumer, automotive, and defense industries looking to adopt CHERI technology,” said Jamie Broome, chief product officer at Codasip. “Codasip Prime allows software developers to evaluate and demonstrate the capabilities of CHERI before chips are even built. We also offer engineering support from our CHERI experts and ensure alignment with industry standards through our partnerships with the CHERI Alliance and RISC-V International.”

CHERI technology effectively prevents memory safety issues, which are used in up to 87% of cyberattack chains according to a recent study. This is becoming increasingly important for businesses due to legislation such as the EU Cyber Resilience Act. CHERI is the most cost-effective way to protect against these vulnerabilities, and it allows for migration to safer code and memory-safe C/C++ programming without costly re-writes.

Codasip is working with other members of the CHERI Alliance, including the University of Cambridge, Google, the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), and the UK’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), to standardize a CHERI extension for RISC-V.

The Codasip X730 is the first commercial implementation of the new CHERI-RISC-V extension and is now available.
