German pharmaceutical company Grünenthal has announced the appointment of Maren Thurow as its new Vice President and Head of Global Communications. Thurow takes over the position from Florian Dieckmann, who has been instrumental in the development of the company’s Communications department since 2021. In her new role, Thurow will be responsible for overseeing all communications operations for Grünenthal in all markets, reporting directly to CEO Gabriel Baertschi.
This appointment comes at a significant time for Grünenthal, following a successful financial year in 2024. The company’s profitability has more than tripled since 2017, thanks in part to strategic acquisitions and partnerships such as the acquisition of US company Valinor Pharma and its product Movantik™ in July 2024. Grünenthal is also making strides in its key R&D programs, including the advancement of its Glucocorticoid Receptor Modulator (GRM) and Nociceptin (NOP) Receptor Agonist programs, as well as progress in its Nav compounds. The company is also focused on accelerating growth in its Qutenza™ and Established Brands, while also working on the smooth integration of Valinor Pharma and seeking out further strategic acquisitions.
Thurow brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having joined Grünenthal in 2021 as Head of Global Commercial Communication and subsequently serving as the Planning Director for the company’s commercial organization. Prior to joining Grünenthal, Thurow was a Director at FleishmanHillard, one of the world’s leading global PR firms.
