Deutsche Rück Group Reports Strong Growth and Financial Stability in 2024 Financial Year
Düsseldorf, 21 May 2025 – The Deutsche Rück Group, one of Germany’s leading reinsurers, announced its financial results for the 2024 financial year today. The company reported significant growth in gross premiums written, net premiums earned, and total security resources, while also achieving a strong financial position.
According to the report, gross premiums written grew by 18.3% to approximately €2.1 billion, with net premiums earned increasing by 17.5% to €1.4 billion. This growth was seen in both international and domestic markets, demonstrating the company’s strong presence in the global insurance industry. Additionally, total security resources increased by €375.8 million, reaching over €3.1 billion.
The highest increases in premiums came from liability, accident, and motor insurance, as well as other lines of insurance. The liability, accident, and motor insurance lines saw a 23.9% increase in gross premiums to €485.8 million, while property insurance, which makes up the majority of Deutsche Rück Group’s portfolio, also experienced strong growth of 16.5% to €1.4 billion.
In the life insurance business, the company reported a 9.7% increase in gross premiums to €84.2 million. This growth was attributed to the expansion of the life and health reinsurance business into the Middle East and North Africa markets during the 2024 financial year.
Frank Schaar, Chief Executive Officer of the Deutsche Rück Group, commented on the company’s performance, stating, “We grew strongly and profitably in all business areas in 2024. Our strategy of gradually and purposefully internationalising our business over the recent years is paying off.” He also noted that the company generated investment income of €74.8 million and achieved a net profit after taxes of €14.5 million, an increase from the previous year’s profit of €12.0 million.
Deutsche Rückversicherung AG and its subsidiary Deutsche Rückversicherung Switzerland Ltd provide reinsurance coverage in the European insurance market and selected international markets. With outstanding long-term credit ratings and consistent market performance, the Group companies are highly sought-after and well-established in Germany as one of the leading reinsurers.
