The actress from BBC takes charge in conducting inclusive summer workshops for children with Autism and SEND Youth in Surrey.

Head2Head Sensory Theatre is gearing up for an exciting summer as they invite young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to take part in a series of creative and inclusive drama and musical theatre workshops. The award-winning charity, known for its groundbreaking accessible theatre, will be hosting these workshops at its new venue, The Barn Hub on Crowhurst Lane End near Oxted, Surrey.

One of the highlights of the summer will be a special three-day masterclass led by BBC actress Georgia de Gidlow, who plays Keedie in the acclaimed series A Kind of Spark and is also an Ambassador for the small charity. The exclusive Autism-friendly workshop will take place from August 11th to 13th and is tailored for children aged 7+ on the autism spectrum. Through performance, storytelling, and character-building, participants will have the opportunity to explore and express themselves in a safe and sensory-aware environment.

Mel Booker, Workshop Coordinator, expressed her excitement about having Georgia on board this summer, stating, “We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome Georgia this summer. Her passion for accessible storytelling makes her an inspiring role model for our young actors. She truly embodies our mission to empower young people with SEND through creative expression.”

In addition to Georgia’s masterclass, Head2Head will also be offering two weeks of inclusive theatre fun with their Musical Theatre Extravaganza from July 28th to August 1st. This workshop will dive into two dynamic musicals through drama, dance, singing, and art, culminating in a final-day performance that celebrates the creativity and growth of each participant.

The Drama & Creativity Workshops, taking place from August 26th to 29th, will offer focused sessions to help build confidence, acting technique, and stage presence. Children will have the chance to explore storytelling, character creation, and even design their own props or perform a “Play in a Day.” Families can choose to book single-day sessions or week-long bundles for their children.

Early bird discounts are available until June 30th, making it the perfect opportunity for families to secure a spot for their child this summer.

All workshops are open to young people with SEND, and will be led by experienced facilitators in a sensory-considerate and welcoming environment. One parent who experienced the workshops firsthand shared their positive experience, stating, “Watching my child participate with so much joy and confidence was incredibly moving. This is more than just drama – it’s a space where they truly belong.”

The workshops will be held at The Barn Hub on Crowhurst Lane End, RH8 Surrey. Bookings can be made through the Head2Head Sensory Theatre website and early bird discounts are available until June 30th. Don’t miss out on this opportunity for your child to explore their creativity and shine on stage this summer.
