EMD Continues to Expand its Retail Alliance with A-Brand Industry
Pfäffikon, Switzerland – The international retail alliance EMD is making strides in its cooperation with the A-brand industry, with the recent integration of Swedish company Axfood Group into the EMD Retail Group.
EMD, which has become a leading trade alliance by combining forces to benefit its millions of retail customers, has successfully implemented this strategy once again with the addition of Axfood Group to its team. The Swedish company, which has been a member of EMD since 1995, will officially join the EMD Retail Group in 2026.
While EMD and its member companies focus on the procurement and marketing of private label products, the EMD Retail Group works closely with multinational A-brand manufacturers to implement cross-border services and marketing concepts. The Retail Group consists of prominent retail companies from various countries, including Spain’s Euromadi Alfa Group, Italy’s ESD Italia, the Netherlands’ Superunie, and Germany’s RTG International. RTG members include well-known retailers such as Globus, Bartels-Langness, Bünting, Klaas & Kock, Kaes, Netto Nord (Salling Group), Rossmann, and Tegut.
According to EMD, the core tasks for the Retail Group members, including new member Axfood, are to promote and market top brand products that are essential for customers in international retail. This includes country-specific innovations and variations of these A-brands, which are supplied by the most renowned manufacturers in the industry.
Axfood, which includes retailers such as Willy’s, Hemköp, and City Gross, is Sweden’s top retailer with a market share of over 25%. Through its purchasing company Dagab, Axfood has a distribution network of over 7,000 stores and partner shops and a total turnover of 7 billion euros. The company’s inclusion in the EMD Retail Group further strengthens the partnership in the international retail sector.
Peter Holm, Vice President at Dagab, expressed his excitement about the membership, stating, “We are delighted to join this unique group of retailers who work closely with the international A-brand industry. The cooperative and balanced approach adopted by EMD is in alignment with our vision of building and successfully continuing business with our industry partners.”
Philippe Gruyters, Managing Director of EMD, also commented on the new addition, saying, “Axfood is a highly valued EMD member. With Axfood joining our international on-top business, we can further expand our strong offering in the very dynamic Scandinavian market.”
European Marketing Distribution AG, which has been recognized in the consumer goods industry as an efficient and powerful partner since 1989, is headquartered in Pfäffikon, Switzerland. The company develops and procures private label concepts for the benefit of consumers and also supports global partnerships with leading brand manufacturers.
Including associate member Lotte from South Korea, EMD member companies in Europe and Asia represent an external retail consumer turnover of approximately 200 billion euros in 16 countries. The member companies are active in various markets, including Austria, Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Czech Republic, Portugal, Denmark, Slovakia, France, South Korea, Germany, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Luxemburg, and Switzerland. Lotte is also active in markets such as China, Japan, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
