New figures have revealed that UK homeowners are missing out on an average saving of over £180 after a slowdown in energy supplier switching caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
For the first time in six years, the number of homeowners changing their energy supplier to a more competitive tariff has actually gone down.
Figures from Free Price Compare, the comparison website, show that between March and December 2020, 436,000 fewer UK consumers compared to 2019 opted to switch to a lower tariff.
That’s despite the uncertainty of Covid-19 leading many consumers to look at ways of cutting costs in all areas of everyday spending.
It means that more than half of UK consumers are still currently on an unnecessarily expensive variable energy tariff, missing out collectively on an incredible £2.6billion in savings.
