“England Claims Victory in 33rd International Fireworks Competition in Hannover – Theme, Teams and Dates for 2026 Set”

Pyrotex Fireworx Wins 33rd International Fireworks Competition in Hannover

Hannover, Germany – On September 20, 2025, Pyrotex Fireworx from England wowed the audience and jury with their performance “Lights, Camera, Action” at the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen. The team took first place in the 33rd International Fireworks Competition organized by Hannover Veranstaltungs GmbH (HVG), beating out strong competitors from around the world.

Under the theme “Lights, Camera, Action”, Pyrotex Fireworx created a spectacular open-air cinema filled with light, music, and emotion. Their precise synchronization of fireworks, music, and iconic voiceovers brought scenes from legendary films like Gladiator, Rocky, and Star Wars to life. The 25-minute show was a remarkable experience for the audience of around 11,500 people.

Founded in 1999 by Mark Kelsall, Pyrotex Fireworx has become one of the UK’s most successful pyrotechnics teams. Combining expertise from the fireworks and music industries, they have won accolades worldwide – most recently in 2024 in Vancouver, where they secured both jury and audience prizes, and in 2019 when they were crowned Grand Champions in the Philippines. Their win in Hannover marks another milestone in their impressive success story.

The performances were evaluated according to clear standards, including overall impression and creativity, synchronization with music, technical execution, colour design and effects, and level of difficulty and innovation. In the end, the perfectly synchronized and harmonious overall impression of Pyrotex Fireworx’s show won them the competition.

The 2025 International Fireworks Competition had a special significance as it took place during the anniversary year of Hannover and the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen. Only teams from countries with close historical ties to Hannover were invited to participate. England is one such country, as the Act of Settlement of 1701 paved the way for the House of Hanover to inherit the English throne. The English Hanoverian kings were regular visitors to Herrenhausen, making Pyrotex Fireworx’s performance a tribute to this cultural heritage.

Looking forward to next year, the theme of the 2026 International Fireworks Competition is “Dance of Northern Lights”. Five teams from Northern Europe will compete, drawing inspiration from the fascinating aurora borealis. The competition will take place between May and September, with teams from Denmark, Norway, Finland, Scotland, and Sweden showcasing their spectacular shows of music, light, and colour against the backdrop of the baroque garden.
