Historic Jim’s Gym to Auction Equipment as Era of UK Bodybuilding Comes to an End

After six decades in operation, Jim’s Gym will see its famous equipment offered to the public through an exclusive auction hosted by NCM.

Stourbridge, UK – 4 December 2025: After serving generations of weightlifters and industry legends, Jim’s Gym is closing following the retirement of its founder, Jim Charles. The forthcoming auction will allow fans and professionals alike to claim a piece of bodybuilding history.

Situated on Chapel Street in Lye, the gym built a global reputation as a development hub for high-performance athletes. Over sixty years, the facility played a relentless role in shaping the careers of some of the sport’s most recognised names.

With acknowledgment from Arnold Schwarzenegger and a legacy that includes top-level athletes such as Serge Nubret, John Brown, Ernie Taylor, Bertil Fox, Edward Kawak, Marlon Darton, Dave Johns, Will Willis, Vince Taylor and Linval Miller, Jim’s Gym became a benchmark facility in British strength culture and a respected name across the international bodybuilding community.

More than 100 lots are now listed for auction, featuring professional-calibre fitness machinery and training assets used at the top of the sport. These include competition-ready squat cages, bench stations, strength machines, rowing units, and extensive free-weight sets forged through decades of dedicated use.

Amy Rutherford, partnerships lead at NCM, said:
“This is a one-time opportunity to own equipment from one of the most respected bodybuilding gyms in the world. Whether you run a commercial gym, train professionally or simply want a standout piece of fitness history, you need to register for this auction.

We’re pleased to be working with Jim and his team to keep this equipment in use, with our circular reuse approach, helping it continue to train and maintain the next generation of champions.”

The auction concludes on 9 December from 1pm.
