Local volunteers rally against hunger, providing a lifeline for 504 families.

OXFORDSHIRE AND BUCKINGHAMSHIRE COMMUNITIES COME TOGETHER TO PROVIDE AID TO UNDERPRIVILEGED FAMILIES

Monday 15 December, 2025 – In a demonstration of community strength and resilience, the Mehiel Foundation successfully distributed essential grocery supplies, toy vouchers, and hygiene products to 504 families in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

Under their “Sacks of Hope” initiative, the foundation, along with a team of 50 dedicated volunteers, worked tirelessly to pack and deliver sacks filled with groceries and treats to support struggling families during these difficult times.

“Our community has faced many challenges, but we have always come together to support one another,” says Lawrence Patrick, Founder of the Mehiel Foundation. “The need for aid has never been greater, and it’s heartwarming to see our community unite to provide support and hope to those who need it most.”

Since its establishment in 2019, the Mehiel Foundation has been a silent force for good, providing aid to families who often suffer in silence. But with the current cost-of-living crisis, the foundation notes that the demand for assistance has increased significantly.

A Unified Effort to Fight Hardship

The distribution of aid was made possible through a collaborative effort with 32 local partners, including schools, churches, and community organisations. These partners worked together to identify the most vulnerable families in the community, ensuring that the aid reached those who needed it the most, including working families who struggle to choose between heating and eating.

“This initiative has brought out the best in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire,” remarks Patrick. “When we hand a family a Sack of Hope, we are not just providing them with groceries. We are showing them that they are seen, valued, and supported by their community. We have witnessed the growth of need over the years, but we have also seen our community’s heart grow to meet it.”

More Than Just Essentials

The “Sacks of Hope” contain non-perishable food items that can sustain a family for several weeks, easing the financial burden of grocery bills. But for both the volunteers and recipients, the sacks hold a deeper significance – they represent dignity.

One volunteer, who spent the day packing sacks, shared their experience, saying:

“It’s easy to feel helpless when reading the news, but being here with 50 other people, all working towards one goal, is electrifying. We aren’t just packing bags; we are packing kindness. Knowing these sacks are going to 32 different schools and organisations means we are reaching deep into the community to help our neighbours, who we may see every day.”
