As the upcoming legislative meeting in Anaheim approaches on June 13th, there is a heated debate between Unite Here Local 11 and the hotel industry regarding proposed legislation on mandatory panic buttons, higher wages, and workload limitations in the hospitality sector.
Unite Here Local 11 is advocating for significant wage increases, workload regulations, and improved worker safety by emphasizing the need for panic buttons to combat workplace harassment and violence.
While the hoteliers share concerns about the potential negative financial impact on the Anaheim Hospitality sector, both sides agree that implementing a panic button solution with indoor geolocation technology could enhance the safety of hotel workers.
In response to these concerns, Location Tech, an authorized application provider for Motorola Solutions, is collaborating with the Anaheim hospitality sector. Led by former Navy SEAL Jeff Engel, Location Tech offers a range of solutions that go beyond panic buttons and is known for its advanced safety technologies that reduce costs and enhance property safety.
Apart from panic buttons, Location Tech provides a comprehensive platform with features such as leak detection, waste monitoring, occupancy sensors, movement sensors, geolocation-enabled radios, and other IoT/smart solutions. Engel and his leadership team have developed a suite of solutions rather than just a first-generation panic button point solution.
Some hotels perceive Location Tech’s offering as an efficiency tactic. In addition to improving staff safety, these technologies have the potential to streamline operations and enhance efficiency. However, it is crucial to strike a balance to ensure that employees are not working less while demanding more compensation, as some union advocates propose.
With the legislative meeting on the horizon, community participation is encouraged to shape the future of Anaheim’s hospitality industry. Finding a balance between worker safety and economic sustainability is a critical challenge, and our community is ready to tackle it.
We invite all stakeholders, including workers, hoteliers, and the wider community, to join the legislative meeting on June 13th, actively contribute to the discussion, and help shape this vital legislation for Anaheim’s hospitality industry.
