A brand new festival, ‘In a Field by a Bridge’, is set to launch this July, offering a unique and sustainable experience. Taking place over the weekend of Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd, the festival aims to inspire sustainable living and celebrate community action.
Located in the picturesque setting of Potters Fields Park, adjacent to the iconic London Bridge, the festival promises a captivating backdrop of London landmarks, cityscapes, and the majestic River Thames. It serves as a celebration of the vibrant London Bridge neighborhood, known for its green spaces, rich history, remarkable architecture, diverse community, and thriving businesses. The district has gained recognition as one of the most culturally innovative, sustainable, and exciting areas in London.
‘In a Field by a Bridge’ provides a platform to showcase London Bridge as a leading environmentally-focused business district. The festival aims to highlight the district’s commitment to transitioning to a carbon-neutral economy, promoting low-impact living, and fostering healthy lifestyles. The festival’s impact on the local community aims to create lasting positive social and economic benefits beyond the launch weekend.
The London Bridge community has long been dedicated to addressing global challenges through local initiatives. Aligned with the ambitious goals of Southwark Council and the Mayor of London, local businesses have embarked on a pioneering journey towards becoming carbon neutral by 2030. They aim to significantly reduce the annual carbon emissions of 130,000 tonnes, equivalent to powering 25,295 homes each year. ‘In a Field by a Bridge’ aims to showcase various strategies for collective and individual decarbonisation, inspiring new ideas for low-carbon living that can be incorporated into daily routines.
The festival offers a diverse range of programming aimed at enabling and encouraging education and action on greener living. Attendees can look forward to live performances, interactive workshops, film screenings, architectural tours, activities for the whole family, and much more.
Some of the programme highlights include conversations with renowned figures such as Keith Brymer Jones and Wayne Hemingway, exploring the pottery production history of Potters Fields and delving into shared experiences in music and creative entrepreneurship. Andrew Logan will launch his new mirrored artworks, ‘The Pollinators’, as part of a joyful parade. The festival will also feature talks, debates, and roundtables on topics such as green and blue social prescribing, urban gardening, and community intervention projects.
Other activities include a mass participatory clay workshop by Clayground Collective, a community cookout called ‘Feast in a Field’ by social enterprise Beyond Food, and musical performances by the London Vegetable Orchestra. There will be film screenings, including the compelling digital performance ‘Can I Live?’ presented by Complicité, which explores the climate catastrophe and the global struggle for social justice.
‘In a Field by a Bridge’ is a free festival that aims to inspire, educate, and engage attendees in greener living practices. With its exciting and sustainable programming, the festival aims to become a regular fixture on London’s cultural calendar, promoting sustainable living and fostering a sense of community and environmental responsibility.
