The Institute of Brewing & Distilling (IBD) has appointed Dr Megan Sheehy as their new President. She succeeds Bhavya Mandanna as the organisation’s fourth female President and second successive female leader.

The announcement was made at the IBD Annual General Meeting held this week, in which Bhavya Mandanna finalised her two-year tenure. She will remain on the Board of Trustees as Immediate Past President.

The AGM also saw Raphaël Grisoni named as the IBD’s Vice President. His extensive industry experience includes the Scotch whisky, champagne and rum industries.

The appointments of Megan, Raphaël and Bhavya demonstrate the IBD’s global reach and technical excellence in the brewing, distilling and associated industries.

Megan brings over 20 years of experience in the barley, malting and brewing sectors, having worked with Joe White Maltings, Lion, Barley Australia, and most recently Grains Australia Limited.

Commenting on her new role, Megan said: “It is an honour and a privilege to accept the role of the President of the IBD. The IBD sets the gold standard and excellence in technical knowledge in the sector and I am proud to have the opportunity to lead the Board through this important time.”

Tom Shelston, IBD Chief Executive Officer, added: “We are delighted to have Megan as our new President. She is passionate about the industry and brings a great deal of experience which will further support our ambitions to serve the sector. I’d also like to recognise the fantastic job that Bhavya has done in the last two years.”

Originally established in 1886, the IBD is the world’s leading provider of professional development in brewing, distilling and related industries. Offering four levels of globally recognised qualifications, the organisation has provided technical education to over 100,000 industry professionals and currently has over 3,000 members across 90 countries.
