A female firefighter will provide evidence of systematic deficiencies in the protection of women as part of an employment tribunal case against Avon Fire and Rescue Service.

Ms Alexandra (Sasha) Acheson is taking Avon Fire and Rescue Service to court for direct sex discrimination, sex and sexual orientation harassment, victimisation, discriminatory constructive unfair dismissal and constructive unfair dismissal. Up to 10 witnesses including current and ex-employees of Avon Fire and Rescue Service will testify in support of Ms Acheson’s claims, which involve the mismanagement of concerns relating to discriminatory conduct by male firefighters.

Ms Acheson is being represented by The Employment Solicitor in what is expected to be a high-value employment tribunal case. Ms Acheson alleges that after she raised grievances against former Crew Manager Dean Davies, she experienced victimisation which led to her resignation due to being diagnosed with PTSD.

Mr Davies was previously a named Respondent in the case but was dismissed from Avon Fire and Rescue Service due to ongoing criminal investigations for alleged violent sexual acts including rape against multiple women.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service have admitted to much of the treatment but deny any wrong-doing on their part, claiming that the reason behind the treatment was Ms Acheson’s alleged poor performance. This is despite Ms Acheson’s successful career at the Gloucester Fire and Rescue Service and the nomination for Spirit of Fire Awards 2020.

Ms Acheson will give evidence at The Bristol Civic Justice Centre on Wednesday 15th November. The hearing is expected to last 15 days and is open to press and public.
