Fuerteventura’s Ancor Sosa dominated the first day of Spain’s premier kitesurf and wingfoil festival, the Gran Canaria Air Battle, held at Las Burras Beach from December 6 to 10. Sosa won all five Wingfoil Freefly-Slalom heats and was victorious in the Surf-Freestyle category, executing a frontside 7 and a front flip.
In the men’s Kitesurf Big Air competition, Tarifa’s Noah Nicolas impressed judges with a skillful jump and a double backloop board off, earning the highest score of the day. Ancor’s sister, Zoe Sosa, also made her debut in the women’s category, attacking forward with front rolls and kiteloops, but ultimately finishing behind Gran Canaria’s Daniela Moreno.
The festival’s schedule includes a free workshop from Tarifa’s Noah Nicolas, junior kitesurf world champion (sub19 Strapless), as well as a beach cleanup and raffles for materials from brands such as CORE, North Kiteboarding, and Duotone. The event is organized by the Canakite Experiences Sports Club with the collaboration of the Royal Canarian Sailing Federation and the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, and sponsored by the Sports and Tourism departments of the Gran Canaria Cabildo.
