“Charity celebrates successful Christmas fundraiser to support new clean water project”

Hope Spring, a Hereford-based clean water advocacy charity, has announced its first project for 2024. The project, a fifty-metre-deep water borehole, will be constructed in the Agege area of Lagos State, Nigeria, benefiting a community of 200 people. Currently, the community relies on an open water well in a neighbouring community, located nearly one mile away.

The new borehole, equipped with water pumps, will supply water to a collection tank and five standpipes, providing easy access for the community to fill their water buckets. Mrs. Akinkunmi, a community leader in the area, expressed her gratitude for the project, stating, “On completion of the project we are working on with Hope Spring, our community will have access to safe drinking water without the need to walk a mile as we do at present.”

Temi Odurinde, trustee of Hope Spring, shared, “We are very excited about our first project this year. We have been in discussions with the beneficiary community for over six months, and it is rewarding to see our conversations turn into tangible actions with the construction of a borehole.” Odurinde also noted, “This project was primarily funded by donations raised through our charity digital greetings card platform, with support from Ozami eCards.” Construction of the borehole is scheduled to begin at the end of January.

Hope Spring Water primarily operates in West Africa, providing clean water solutions to thousands of people through the construction of wells and boreholes. The charity also trains groups and communities on how to collect clean water from rain and other sources. The organization is solely funded by donations raised by its dedicated volunteers.
