The Foodservice Packaging Association (FPA) has announced the appointment of a new vice-chair and the bolstering of its committees.

On Friday, June 21, 2024, the Foodservice Packaging Association (FPA) held an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) where Mark Byrne, the executive chair of the association, announced important updates regarding the association’s leadership and committees. The EGM, which took place on Friday, June 14, saw the unanimous vote of FPA members for Anna Turner of Bidfood to take on the role of vice chair for an initial three-year term.

Turner, who was appointed as interim vice chair in February, will continue to serve as an FPA director and hold her place on the FPA board. However, she will be stepping down from her current position as head of the FPA membership committee. In her place, committee member Mark Durston from Pactiv Evergreen will be assuming the role.

Mark Byrne expressed his delight at Turner’s appointment, stating, “She combines a solid understanding of the FPA with a wealth of experience gained from working within the foodservice packaging industry.” As vice chair, Turner will be responsible for overseeing strategic initiatives, enhancing member services, and driving the association’s objectives forward.

Turner responded to her appointment by saying, “I am excited to embark on this journey and to contribute to the continued success of our trade association.” She also thanked her employer, Bidfood, for their support and allowing her the time to undertake her FPA work. Turner expressed her passion for the FPA members and her commitment to ensuring their engagement, representation with government and stakeholders, and access to networking opportunities.

Turner also acknowledged the importance of younger members and their role in shaping the future of the FPA, stating, “I’m delighted to see the next generation being appointed onto the board.”

In addition to Turner’s appointment, the board also welcomed new members Charlie Dean, managing director of Catering24, and Mike Bristow, group sales and marketing director at Go-Pak UK, who will serve for a 12-month period.

Aside from the leadership changes, updates were also announced for the FPA’s committees. Following the establishment of the new Regulatory and Compliance committee in April, headed by Anne Sutton, Adrian Pratt of Benders has taken on the role of head of the SAGA committee. Pratt is joined by two additional committee members, Libby Coe from Cofresco and Will Mercer from Coveris.

The Membership Committee has also been strengthened with the addition of Chris Castle from Conglom, Cem Ucur from Quality Pack, and Rebecca Tear from 4Aces. The Leisure and Activities Committee also welcomed Beth Williams from Vegware, who was the winner of the 2024 FPA Rising Star Award.

Mark Byrne concluded the announcement by reaffirming the FPA’s commitment to providing advocacy, education, and networking opportunities for its members. He emphasized the association’s advocacy efforts in lobbying governments and stakeholders, upholding industry standards, and facilitating collaboration to address challenges in the foodservice packaging sector.
