Carveco Ltd, a leading provider of Computer-Aided-Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CADCAM) software, is proud to announce the thirtieth anniversary of its software’s core technology. Originally known as ArtCAM®, the software has helped individuals and businesses globally to create a wide range of designs, from signage and movie props to coinage and embossing dies.
The software was first developed in 1994 when a Delcam customer requested a way to create a low-level sculpted 3D design from a cartoon image. This sparked the idea to use colours to instantly create different heights of a relief, marking the beginning of ArtCAM’s 3D relief modelling journey.
Timothy Buck, Carveco’s Technical Director and former ArtCAM Development Manager, comments, “Our goal has always been to provide a software that allows for artistic expression while maintaining fast and precise machining capabilities. By working closely with our customers, we have been able to understand their needs and aspirations and develop innovative features and solutions. This has led us to create the first CNC software packages for hobbyists and develop specialist features for niche markets, such as the minting industry.”
Since its inception, the software has received recognition for its innovation, including the Queen’s Award for Innovation. It has also gained high praise from the technical committee within the minting industry, who use the software to create advanced designs for circulation and commemorative coins.
In 2014, Autodesk acquired Delcam, and in 2018, ArtCAM was discontinued. However, this did not mark the end of this technology. Carveco Ltd was formed to provide a safe-haven for existing ArtCAM customers.
Robert Newman, Carveco’s Managing Director and former ArtCAM Business Development Manager, explains, “We had built a strong relationship with our customers over the years and wanted to provide them with a way forward. We were proud to negotiate the continuance of the ArtCAM code, allowing us to offer continuity of care for our customers.”
Since its formation, Carveco Ltd has continued to develop the code to meet the evolving needs of its global customer base. The company now offers three solutions: Carveco Maker, Carveco Maker Plus, and Carveco®, its flagship product. Carveco Maker is designed for small businesses and home-hobbyists and starts at $15 per month.
Carveco Maker Plus builds on the functionality of Carveco Maker and provides 2D design and 3D relief modelling and machining capabilities. Carveco is the flagship product, offering advanced 2D/3D modelling, sculpting, and machining capabilities for customers using high-end CNC machines and lasers.
Since its founding, Carveco Ltd has been able to bring back many of the people who helped develop and support the software over the years, including its international sales partners.
