The 12 year old with arthritis takes action to aid others

Juvenile Arthritis Research Recognized as Finalist in 2024 Charity Heroes Awards

London, UK – Juvenile Arthritis Research has been announced as a finalist in the prestigious Charity Heroes Awards 2024, presented by Benefact Group. The awards program is designed to celebrate and support charities that are making a positive impact in their communities.

Juvenile Arthritis Research has been selected as a finalist in the ‘Volunteer of the Year’ category, out of a total of seven award categories. The winners will be announced at a ceremony held at The Tower of London on November 28, 2024. The winning charity will receive a £5,000 award, with the runners-up receiving £1,000.

According to statistics, 20 families in the UK are told every week that their child has Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA), a condition that many have never heard of before. This diagnosis can be life-changing for families, as it is a condition that will stay with the child for the rest of their lives.

Juvenile Arthritis Research is a small but impactful charity that provides support to families affected by JIA. One of their volunteers, 12-year-old Abbie, has been living with arthritis since she was just one year old. She came up with the idea of creating support packs for other children with the condition, and together with her mother and Juvenile Arthritis Research, they have made her vision a reality. These support packs, called ‘A Little Box of Hope’, contain items that bring comfort and hope to families during such a difficult time. Abbie personally writes a note to each child that receives a pack.

“We are incredibly proud of Abbie and all of our volunteers at Juvenile Arthritis Research,” says Richard Beesley, Founder of the charity. “Abbie’s dedication and compassion towards helping others with JIA is truly inspiring. Being recognized as a finalist in the Volunteer of the Year category is a well-deserved recognition for her hard work. This award will also help us continue our vital support work for families affected by JIA.”

The Benefact Group, a family of award-winning specialist financial services companies, is the third-largest corporate donor to charity in the UK and is the organization behind the Charity Heroes Awards. Mark Hews, Group Chief Executive of Benefact Group, says, “We are delighted to announce the finalists of Benefact Group’s Charity Heroes Awards 2024.
