NFT trailblazer and anonymous figurehead of the NFT art movement, known as Pranksy, is set to unveil his private collection to the public for the first time in an exhibition entitled “NFT REvolution: I Am Pranksy”. The exhibition will take place from October 18-25 at Asprey Studio in Mayfair and will showcase the evolution and impact of NFTs.
Pranksy, who rose to fame in 2017 with his involvement in Cryptokitties and Bored Ape Yacht Club, is considered one of the most influential figures in the NFT space. His collection, which includes both his own creations and acquisitions of groundbreaking works, offers a rare glimpse into the world of NFTs and their transformative effect on the art world and concepts of ownership, value, and creative independence.
According to Pranksy, the exhibition will be an “immersive experience designed to transport viewers back to the origins of NFTs” and showcase their journey from a “radical playground for artists” to their current status. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the origins and impact of NFTs, from their early days as digital collectibles and blockchain experiments to their convergence with fashion, music, and activism, and their role in securing provenance for both digital and physical art.
Magpie, Pranksy’s co-conspirator, notes that the exhibition aims to recapture the “punk ethos at the heart of this movement” and challenge traditional art market structures. The exhibition will feature a mix of digital and physical pieces, including works by renowned artists such as Josie Bellini, Dolce & Gabbana, and Nina Chanel Abney.
In addition to showcasing the aesthetic aspects of NFTs, the exhibition will also delve into their functional dimensions and their potential to reshape ownership and authorship in a decentralized world. This includes their use in gaming and the immersive digital world, highlighting their role not only as artistic artefacts but as revolutionary innovations.
