The 2025 Go! event acknowledges Ungaretti and his experiences in the Carso region.

The highly anticipated international exhibition, Go!2025, is set to open on February 8 with the presence of Heads of State from Italy and Slovenia. The event will honor the renowned Italian poet and soldier, Giuseppe Ungaretti, for his contributions during World War I.

The exhibition, which will run until May 4, will take place at two locations – the Museo di Santa Chiara in Gorizia and the Galleria Comunale d’Arte Contemporanea in Monfalcone. The Gorizia section will provide a comprehensive look into Ungaretti’s experiences on the Carso, including his battles, moments of rest, and personal stories of the region’s unique landscape.

In contrast to Ungaretti’s poetry, the Galleria Comunale d’Arte Contemporanea will showcase the iconic works of Andy Warhol, with the exhibition “Andy Warhol Beyond Borders.” The exhibit, which has already garnered a high number of visitors in its first week, will now have extended visiting hours to accommodate the high demand.

The exhibition will also be held at Palazzo Attems Petzenstein, a scenic and elegant venue overlooking both cities of Gorizia and Monfalcone. The castle, which dates back to the 11th century and was reconstructed in the 1930s, offers a stunning panoramic view of the city and the Church of Sant’Ignazio in Piazza della Vittoria.

Visitors can also take a walk to Piazza della Transalpina, a historically significant location as it was the site where the border between Italy and Slovenia was drawn in 1947. The square was split in half, with the Iron Curtain wall running right through the middle until 2004. This was the only barrier in Italy, reminiscent of the Berlin Wall. The ceremony for the opening of the first borderless European Capital of Culture will take place in this very location in two weeks.
