The International Virtual Tennis Federation (IVTF) has reached a significant milestone in its global expansion efforts. As of February 10th, 2025, the organization has seen a surge in membership, growing from 35,467 to 222,840 members in just two years. This growth solidifies virtual tennis as a popular and thriving esport worldwide.
As part of this momentum, eight countries are set to launch their national VR tennis leagues, which will culminate in the first-ever VR Tennis World Champion being crowned in Las Vegas on September 10th, 2025.
The national leagues are taking shape in Austria, Switzerland, Australia, Germany, India, Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom & Ireland. Each league is organized and managed by prominent organizations within the esports industry, ensuring a high level of competition and professionalism.
In Austria, the VR Tennis League is governed by the ÖTV Austrian Tennis Federation and organized by LAOLA1 & Sportradar. The Erste Bank Virtual Open, now in its second year, continues to thrive. In Switzerland, the league is launched in collaboration with Coop, one of the country’s largest retail chains. Qualifying events will take place in various cities, with the grand finale set for June 7th in Lyssach.
In Australia, the Australian Esports League (AEL) is leading the VR Tennis League, with qualification tournaments culminating in a finals event at the Oz Comic-Con event in Melbourne this June. The German VR Tennis League will host virtual qualifications from June 2-22, with the championship finals held at the WTA tournament in Bad Homburg at the end of June.
In India, the India Qualifiers for the World Tennis Esports Championships will be conducted by NoScope Gaming, one of the country’s most popular esports companies. The Indian VR Tennis champion will be crowned by June 2025. In Canada, the Canadian Virtual Tennis League (CVTL) will host virtual qualifications until April 27th, followed by a live-streamed quarterfinals bracket and a semi-final and final matchup in Montreal in May/June 2025.
In the United States, the US VR Tennis League, managed by First Coast Esports Alliance, will be monitoring the “Road to Vegas” event and using it as the qualifier to place the top 16 US Players who do not qualify into a Double Elimination US Championship Tournament to be held online during the first week of July.
In the UK & Ireland, players will compete in tournaments throughout the Tennis Esports Tour, earning points that culminate in the league finals scheduled for June 2025. The top players will then qualify to represent their nation at the prestigious World Tennis Esports Championships (WTEC) in Las Vegas in September 2025.
The national champions from each of these leagues will earn their ticket to the World Tennis Esports Championships, hosted at The Space in Las Vegas. This grand event will be streamed live, offering esports fans an electrifying spectacle as the world’s best VR tennis players compete for the historic title of World Champion in VR Tennis.
The IVTF’s mission is to push the boundaries of competitive virtual sports and establish VR tennis as a leading global esports discipline. With its rapid membership growth and expanding national leagues, IVTF is setting a new standard for virtual sports worldwide.
