Bristol Walk Fest organizers are calling on community projects, local organizations, and walking groups to sign up as walk providers for the upcoming festival in May. The deadline for registration is February 23rd, in order to be included in the festival’s printed programme, which will be distributed throughout the city in early April.
Karen Lloyd, manager of Bristol Walk Fest, states that there are only a few requirements for walk providers. The walks must take place within Bristol during the month of May and ideally be free or offer a discounted rate for Walk Fest participants. Additionally, providers must have Public Liability Insurance and complete a risk assessment to ensure the safety of all participants and providers.
“We provide resources for our walk providers, with all the guidance and information you need, including useful checklists, templates, logos and social media banners. We are very happy to support anyone who has not done this before, so if you have questions just get in touch,” says Lloyd.
Previous years have seen a diverse range of walk themes, including mindful walks, pirate trails, poetry and literary themes, walks of architectural or cultural interest, and walks focused on Black history and Queer history. There have also been walks in hidden or lesser-known parts of the city, urban and rural explorations, early morning and nature-focused walks, street art tours, walking sports, and casual strolls with a chat. The possibilities for walk themes are endless.
Signing up for the festival’s provider database not only allows for participation in this year’s festival, but also ensures providers receive news, resources, and updates on future Walk Fest events.
