The Hope Foundation for Street Children (HOPE) is pleased to announce the launch of Footsteps for HOPE, a month-long challenge to walk 10,000 steps per day from 1 to 30 April. The initiative aims to raise awareness and support for vulnerable children in Kolkata, India, and coincides with International Day for Street Children on 12 April.
HOPE is inviting schools, community groups, walking clubs, and individuals to participate in this challenge and help make a positive impact on the lives of disadvantaged children in Kolkata. By joining the challenge, participants will not only improve their own health and well-being, but also contribute to providing education and skills for a brighter future to these street-connected children.
Many of these children come from families who struggle to access basic needs such as food, clean water, and shelter. Others are alone in the city, forced to work at a young age in order to survive, making them vulnerable to abuse, trafficking, and exploitation. By taking part in this challenge, every step taken will help raise funds to support these children and give them a pathway out of poverty.
According to HOPE, 96% of children aged 6-14 years in the slums where they operate are attending school. In the 2023/24 academic year, 9020 children received educational support through HOPE’s various programs, including creches, Naboasha centers, special education projects, educational sponsorship, and the Quality and Inclusive Education Program.
Thanks to HOPE’s efforts, over 4,000 children are able to complete their elementary education in child-friendly and inclusive environments through coaching centers and existing formal schools. Currently, HOPE is working in 47 schools and 15 government resource centers.
All funds raised through this challenge will go towards HOPE’s education programs, as the organization believes that education is a fundamental right for all children. By signing up for Footsteps for HOPE, schools, community groups, and individual supporters can make a real difference in the lives of these vulnerable children.
Interested participants can sign up for the challenge on HOPE’s website at www.thehopefoundation.org.uk/footsteps. Make a difference and join Footsteps for HOPE today.
