The 2025 King Alfred’s Tower Charity Abseil Event

SOS Africa, a charity dedicated to providing education and support to disadvantaged children in Africa, has announced plans for a 160ft charity abseil fundraising event this summer. The event will take place at King Alfred’s Tower, located at Stourhead and will be held on the weekends of 27th/28th September and 4th/5th October 2025.

Thanks to the generosity of the National Trust Stourhead, SOS Africa’s King Alfred’s Tower Charity Abseil will be the highest charity abseil to date, giving participants a unique opportunity to abseil down this iconic historical landmark.

SOS Africa first hosted a charity abseil from King Alfred’s Tower in September 2023, during which 270 fearless fundraisers raised an impressive £41,000 for both SOS Africa and Stourhead, National Trust. Since then, the charity has received numerous requests to host the event again.

During this highly anticipated 4-day event, brave fundraisers from across the Southwest and beyond will climb the tower’s 205 steps and descend from the top in support of SOS Africa’s cause. Participants will also have the chance to admire the stunning views of the surrounding counties before reaching the base of the tower.

Those interested in participating will need to pay a £20 deposit to cover Aardvark Endeavours Instructors fees and raise a minimum of £50. To register, individuals or teams can contact Event Organiser Matt Crowcombe via email (matt@sosafrica.com), providing their full name and email address, as well as their preferred abseil time and date (9am – 5pm, 27th/28th September or 4th/5th October 2025). A £20 deposit per abseiler will also need to be transferred to SOS Africa.

Once registered, participants will be assigned a specific abseil date and time, and will have their own online fundraising page set up for them. This page will also be added to SOS Africa’s Event Fundraising Page, where they can track the progress of fellow abseilers and the overall event fundraising total.

No previous abseil experience is required to participate, and individuals must be age 9 or over (under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian). While enough time will be given for participants to climb the tower’s 205 steps, a reasonable level of fitness will be required.

Don’t miss this chance to support a worthy cause and experience the thrill of abseiling down King Alfred’s Tower. Contact SOS Africa today to secure your spot in this exciting event.
