A new world record for a 116-mile run is set in Central Park to raise awareness for perinatal mental health.

New York, NY – On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, Hamish Magoffin, a man who tragically lost his wife and baby son to postpartum depression, set a new world running record by completing 19 circuits around Central Park. Magoffin ran a total of 187 kilometers (116 miles) in just 17 hours and 29 minutes, all in honor of his late son Arthur’s fourth birthday. The run was also a fundraiser for postpartum depression and perinatal mental health, supporting the PAM Foundation (Pranaiya & Arthur Magoffin Foundation), a non-profit organization founded by Magoffin himself in memory of his late wife and son.

Magoffin, surrounded by support from the New York City community, began his run at 6:05 a.m. at Tavern on the Green, the finish line for the New York Marathon. He was joined by members of the New York Athletic Club, Central Park Track Club, Pirates of Sunrise, and many others who ran with him and tracked his route through the use of Garmin technology.

In a statement, Magoffin expressed his gratitude for the support he received from the community, saying, “The NYC community’s support was extraordinary—it got me through the day. Achieving this on Arthur’s fourth birthday made it even more special. I hope that by undertaking this run we can raise more awareness and resources for perinatal mental health to better understand such conditions and provide the support to those families that are in need.”

Magoffin’s wife, Pranaiya Oulapathorn, whom he met while studying in the United Kingdom in 2010, tragically passed away from postpartum depression in 2021 after giving birth to their son Arthur. In the wake of this tragedy, Magoffin established the PAM Foundation to address perinatal mental health issues.

The PAM Foundation, which has branches in both Thailand and the UK, has three main pillars: awareness and education, care, and research. Since its inception in 2021, the organization has hosted a photography exhibition and panel discussions, provided training for mental health professionals in Thailand, sponsored research projects at the University of Oxford and Siriraj Hospital, and collaborated with the London School of Economics and Political Science and various Thai universities.

Recently, the PAM Foundation, Inc. was established in the US as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to expand its work addressing perinatal mental health. Trevor Hale, a media contact for the foundation, can be reached at thale@explorers.org or +1 (303) 802-0014.

Magoffin’s world record-breaking run was documented through photos and a video, which can be found on the PAM Foundation’s Flickr and YouTube accounts. A Medium article detailing the challenge can also be found on the foundation’s website.
