A new survey of 2,000 adults in the UK has found that 79% have experienced embarrassing stomach issues in their lifetime. From loud stomach gurgles in a job interview to breaking wind in public, 73% of Brits have suffered from symptoms such as bloating, constipation and diarrhoea.
The survey, conducted on behalf of ProVen Probiotics, also revealed that 41% of participants have accidentally passed wind in public, while 36% have had stomach gurgles loud enough for others to hear. Furthermore, 15% of those polled admitted to leaving a public toilet smelly.
Commenting on the survey findings, Dr. Megan Rossi, Registered Dietitian and Gut Health Expert, said: “It’s no surprise that gut health issues are something many of us will experience, and it can be embarrassing. But it’s important to remember that a healthy gut plays a key role in your overall health and wellbeing, so it’s crucial to seek support and advice if you have any concerns.”
