Bochum, Germany – Articy Software GmbH & Co.KG, a leading software developer for narrative design tools, has just announced the release of a powerful new update for their flagship product, articy:draft X. The update, tailored for game studios, narrative designers, and tool developers, brings a wide range of quality-of-life improvements, developer-focused enhancements, and a brand new plugin for voiceover prototyping.
The latest version of articy:draft X, released on August 14th, 2025, makes it easier than ever for creators to jump back into their interactive stories or paused game projects.
“This update reflects our commitment to empowering narrative creators at every level – whether they’re writing solo, collaborating in teams, or extending the tool with custom-built workflows,” says Carsten Schroeder, CEO of Articy Software GmbH & Co.KG.
The update includes several user experience and user interface improvements that make project creation and import more intuitive. These improvements include cleaner dialogs, smarter field validation, navigation-friendly dialogs, and editable directory fields. Additionally, the setup for multi-user projects now flows logically from start to finish with a streamlined source control management process.
For developers building custom tools and workflows, the Macro Development Kit (MDK) has been enhanced with new capabilities. These include a configuration framework for creating persistable plugin data, a dedicated Plugin Configurations Tab for plugin settings, and toolbar extensions for quick access to plugin features. The update also offers expanded change detection and asset callbacks for more responsive and accurate event handling, as well as new property types for custom export settings.
The release also introduces a new VO Extension plugin, developed in partnership with ElevenLabs, which allows seamless integration with their voice synthesis technology. This plugin lets writers and developers preview synthesized voiceovers directly within their projects, fine-tune tone and pacing, and guide voice actors with precision. It also allows for fun experimentation with different voice profiles.
Other enhancements in this release include searchable dropdowns for easier handling of large template lists, localization proofing support for internal reviews, and single sign-on (SSO) for Perforce to make logins easier and more secure for large teams. The update also includes various bug fixes for a smoother and more stable experience.
“This release is all about usability and extensibility – helping teams streamline their processes, test ideas faster, and build stronger narrative content,” says Schroeder. “Whether you’re a writer, designer, or developer, now is a great time to (re)discover articy:draft X.”
