Butser Ancient Farm in Waterlooville, Hampshire, is excited to announce their upcoming summer holiday camps that are designed to provide children with engaging and educational experiences. The camps will run for four weeks, starting on Monday 1st July 2024, and offer a fantastic blend of fun, learning, and adventure in the picturesque setting of the South Downs National Park.
The first program, called Warrior Camp, will run for two weeks and is perfect for young adventurers aged 8-14. Participants will learn essential survival skills and explore the daily life of ancient warriors, using a combination of traditional challenges and modern materials. This will give children a glimpse into the ingenuity of our ancestors. The camp will cover various activities such as fire-making, shelter-building, and survival skills. On the last day, parents are invited to join their children for a BBQ and witness them undertake their final, exciting challenge.
The second program, Time Traveller Holiday Club, will run for two weeks in August and is open to children aged 6-12. Each day, participants will travel back in time and explore different historical eras through hands-on activities. These will include crafting clay pots, grinding wheat, trying out ancient weapons, and engaging in traditional games. The club will also have themed days, such as Stone Age Survivors, Bronze Age Builders, Iron Age Inventors, Saxon Storytellers, and Roman Rebels. The University of Reading’s Ancient Schoolroom project will lead special sessions, adding an extra layer of expertise and knowledge to the club’s activities.
Butser Ancient Farm offers flexible booking options for parents, who can choose to book individual days or a full week of activities for their children. The camps are priced affordably, with individual days starting at £40 and a full week costing £160, which includes one free day. The camps are run by experienced and knowledgeable educators who are DBS checked and First Aid trained. To accommodate busy schedules, Butser offers flexible drop-off and pick-up times between 9-10am and 4-5pm, with the main activities running between 10am-4pm.
