A groundbreaking concept has been unveiled today at the Brunswick Art Gallery in central London. The gallery will showcase a unique visual album, exhibiting films and piano tracks created by Fabio D’Andrea in a first-of-its-kind exhibition.
Fabio, a contemporary composer, has composed a set of 24 piano pieces titled “24,” which are based on each major and minor chromatic key in the musical scale. This collection of piano pieces, with its distinct contemporary edge, sets itself apart as the world’s first classical video album. Each piece is accompanied by its own music video, addressing various themes of our time, including domestic abuse (Mel B), disability (Rose Leslie), and mental health (Russell Tovey).
Fabio expresses his excitement about the exhibition at Brunswick Art Gallery, stating, “I am absolutely thrilled that Brunswick Art Gallery is showcasing ’24’ in this manner. It is incredibly progressive and blurs the boundaries between art and music in an unexpected way. I am eager to show gallery visitors the immersive experience of my work on the ‘big screen.’ I am truly passionate about reaching younger audiences and demonstrating that classical music can be enjoyed in many different ways.”
Each music video features renowned actors and dancers who share a passion for contemporary music and the arts, showcasing their exceptional acting abilities through dance. Spanning a diverse range of genres, the videos also feature dancers from esteemed dance companies such as The Royal Ballet, Rambert Dance Company, and The London Contemporary Dance School. Additionally, leading commercial street-dance companies contribute their talents, with choreography by some of the UK’s top choreographers.
One of the first videos from the series, “The Sleeping Beauty,” directed by Fabio, has been screened at numerous film festivals and has garnered over 20 international awards, including “Best Music Video” at the esteemed LA Short Fest. Another video, “Love Should Not Hurt,” featuring Spice Girl Mel B, received unprecedented global media coverage. Natalie Dormer and Ellie Bamber are among the other renowned actors who have participated in Fabio’s videos.
Overall, “24” presents a visually stunning collection of videos and exquisite original piano music. Fabio’s aim is to inspire younger generations and cultivate a newfound appreciation for contemporary dance and music. The videos encompass a wide range of narratives, including social issues, cultural history, and visual celebrations of the natural world, making contemporary classical music accessible to a diverse global audience.
