Celebrity ambassador Saliha Mahmood Ahmed joins forces with Bowel Research UK in new partnership.

Celebrity chef and NHS doctor, Dr Saliha Mahmood Ahmed, has been announced as the first ever ambassador for Bowel Research UK, the only charity in the UK that funds research into bowel cancer and other bowel diseases.

Dr Saliha, who rose to fame after winning the 2017 MasterChef competition on BBC, has been working closely with Bowel Research UK to promote their gold award-winning microbiome garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Her new role as ambassador will see her continue to raise awareness of bowel diseases and promote good gut health.

With a Masters degree in nutrition and extensive knowledge in gastroenterology, Dr Saliha is uniquely positioned to educate people on the importance of maintaining a healthy gut. She believes that a diverse and balanced diet can help prevent bowel diseases and improve symptoms for those living with chronic bowel conditions.

Bowel Research UK not only funds research into bowel cancer and other bowel diseases, but also focuses on the gut microbiome – the collection of bacteria, fungi, and viruses that naturally live inside us. A diverse and healthy gut microbiome has been linked to overall better health and protection against bowel diseases.

The microbiome is also a key theme in Dr Saliha’s upcoming recipe book, titled “The 20-Minute Gut Health Fix,” which will be published by Yellow Kite in hardback on February 27, 2025.

Dr Saliha expressed her excitement about her new role, stating, “As a gut health doctor, I talk every day about how to prevent bowel diseases and how diet can help people living with chronic bowel conditions manage their symptoms. I’m really excited about my new role as ambassador for Bowel Research UK. I believe this will help us reach even more people with these important messages and help raise vital funds for research that can change and save lives.”

Lindsay Easton, CEO of Bowel Research UK, also expressed her gratitude for Dr Saliha’s support and dedication to the cause, saying, “Saliha has already done so much to raise the profile of our charity and vital funds for our groundbreaking research into bowel cancer and other bowel diseases, so we’re delighted that she’s officially onboard as an ambassador to continue this work. We’re grateful for Saliha’s support and her dedication to fighting bowel cancer and other bowel diseases that affect more than a million people across the UK.”
