The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) have joined forces to provide free access to CP1 (2020), the Code of Practice for heat networks in the UK.
CP1 (2020) is a comprehensive guide published by CIBSE that offers technical guidance and sets voluntary minimum standards for heat networks in the UK. Widely recognized as the go-to resource in the industry, CP1 (2020) has gained widespread acceptance and support since its last update in 2020. It has been used by industry professionals as a vital technical reference and by developers to establish standards for their new heat networks.
Previously available only to CIBSE members, CP1 (2020) will now be accessible to all stakeholders thanks to the generous funding provided by DESNZ. This collaborative effort aims to make crucial information outlined in CP1 (2020) available to everyone and to promote better preparedness for the upcoming heat network regulations in 2025.
In addition to removing the paywall, CIBSE and DESNZ will also work together to update the voluntary Code of Practice throughout 2024. This joint initiative ensures that CP1 (2020) remains aligned with the evolving regulatory landscape, particularly with the development of Heat Network Technical Assurance Scheme (HNTAS) standards. The next version of CP1 is expected to be available for free download in 2025.
Dr Anastasia Mylona, Technical Director at CIBSE, expressed her excitement about the partnership, stating: “We are thrilled to partner with DESNZ to offer CP1 (2020) free to all stakeholders. This essential guide sets the standards for UK heat networks and promotes industry readiness for upcoming regulations. It reflects our commitment to promoting best practices and sustainability.”
