CIBSE and the International Code Council (ICC) have taken a major step towards promoting best practices in the built environment by signing a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
The MOU serves as a formal agreement between the two organisations to collaborate on areas of common interest, leveraging their respective expertise and resources for the benefit of their members and the wider industry.
Some of the key objectives outlined in the MOU include identifying and working on shared priorities that support building safety, sustainability, and performance, jointly promoting educational programmes, technical publications, and events, and encouraging knowledge exchange through participation in technical initiatives and expert groups. The MOU also aims to facilitate ongoing dialogue and engagement at the organisational level.
Dr Anastasia Mylona, Technical Director at CIBSE, expressed her excitement about the partnership, stating that it reflects CIBSE’s commitment to international collaboration in creating a safer and more sustainable built environment. She added that working closely with the ICC will allow them to increase their collective impact and share valuable expertise to support the development of robust standards and guidance for global communities.
Similarly, Matt Sigler, PMG Executive Director at ICC, also emphasised the benefits of the partnership, stating that it provides a unique opportunity to align efforts and expand the global reach of effective building codes and technical excellence. He also highlighted the potential for fostering innovation, enhancing public safety, and supporting the evolving needs of the built environment worldwide.
The MOU also includes a commitment to respecting each other’s intellectual property and ensuring that any use of copyrighted materials is subject to appropriate permissions and acknowledgements.
This partnership highlights the growing importance of global dialogue in shaping the future of the built environment and reinforces the organisations’ dedication to supporting their members through shared knowledge and international collaboration.
