Cloudflare, Inc. (NYSE: NET), the leading connectivity cloud company, has announced its agreement to acquire Replicate, an AI platform that simplifies the deployment of AI models for developers. This acquisition will allow Cloudflare to make its Workers platform the premier end-to-end solution for building and running efficient and reliable AI applications. With just one line of code, developers on Cloudflare will soon be able to access any AI model globally.
In the past, AI was primarily used by academics and advanced researchers, but it has now become a tool for the masses. This has resulted in an increase in demand for AI among developers of all levels. However, running and scaling complex AI models requires specific hardware and infrastructure that can be costly and time-consuming. By acquiring Replicate, Cloudflare aims to simplify this process and make it more accessible to developers.
“Our goal with Cloudflare Workers has always been to eliminate the complexities of infrastructure so that developers can focus on building and delivering exceptional products,” said Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare. “With Replicate, developers can access any model they want from one of the industry’s largest catalogs, deploy it instantly on Cloudflare’s global network, and build an entire full-stack application in one place. Cloudflare will become the most seamless, all-in-one shop for AI development.”
Replicate has built an extensive catalog of over 50,000 production-ready AI models and has fostered a thriving developer community. With this acquisition, these models will now be available to Cloudflare Workers AI users, enabling them to build serverless applications. Furthermore, Replicate’s expertise will power new capabilities on Workers AI, including the ability to run custom models and pipelines. The talented team at Replicate, with their experience in building AI products and developer communities, will also enhance Cloudflare’s AI deployment capabilities.
“We are in the early stages of developers building AI applications, and currently, the burden of complexity falls on the developer. Replicate was founded with the mission to solve this problem by creating fundamental tools that make AI development accessible and straightforward,” said Ben Firshman, co-founder and CEO of Replicate. “We are excited to join the Cloudflare team. By combining our robust model library and developer community with Cloudflare’s global network, we are creating a platform where developers can easily build and deploy tomorrow’s next big AI applications.”
The acquisition is expected to close within the next two months, subject to customary closing conditions.
