Codasip has been chosen to develop a high-performance RISC-V processor for the EU-funded DARE project.

Codasip Selected for €240M European Supercomputing Project

Munich, Germany, 6 March 2025- Codasip, the European RISC-V leader, announced today that it has been chosen to provide a high-end, customizable general-purpose processor for the European supercomputing project Digital Autonomy with RISC-V in Europe (DARE).

DARE, a €240 million initiative funded by the European Union, aims to develop a supercomputing compute stack with high-performance and energy-efficient RISC-V-based processors and accelerators. The project will also focus on hardware/software co-design to achieve competitive performance and efficiency.

Codasip was selected to design a RISC-V-based General-Purpose Processor (GPP) specifically for HPC-class applications. The company’s fully Europe-based development team and innovative Custom Compute approach make it uniquely qualified to deliver on this project.

Codasip’s current product portfolio includes 32-bit low-power embedded processors to 64-bit application core families with optional safety and security features, such as the advanced memory protection technology CHERI. With its highly automated processor design toolset, Codasip Studio, the company offers extensive possibilities for hardware/software co-optimization and application-specific customization. Through the DARE project, Codasip will expand its product portfolio to include high-end applications such as AI, big data processing, and supercomputing.

Karel Masarik, Codasip Founder and Chief Innovation Officer, expressed excitement about the company’s involvement in the project, stating, “The development efficiency of our Custom Compute offering means we can do more with less compared to less powerful legacy approaches. We are honored to be a part of the largest chip development project ever funded by the European Union. The EU recognizes the value of our technology in strengthening the European semiconductor industry. Through DARE and other projects, we also gain access to a European network of companies working together with us on very advanced new technologies.”

The European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (JU) has provided funding for Digital Autonomy with RISC-V in Europe (DARE) under grant agreement No 101202459.
