“Construction Carbon and CIBSE have joined forces to offer advanced environmental training for construction projects.”

Construction Carbon and CIBSE Announce Launch of Ground-Breaking Lifecycle Carbon Assessor Practitioner Training Programme

Construction Carbon, a leading carbon verification company, has joined forces with CIBSE, the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers, to develop a new training programme aimed at standardizing assessments within the construction industry. This initiative, supported by partners such as Amazon and the Laudes Foundation, is in response to the increasing demand for skilled professionals who can consistently evaluate and mitigate the environmental impact of construction projects throughout their lifecycle.

The Lifecycle Carbon Assessor Practitioner Training programme will be available starting in May 2025 and will consist of a series of online modules followed by an examination. Participants who successfully complete the exam will receive a formal certificate, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and tools to effectively evaluate and report on the whole life carbon impact of buildings.

“We are excited to partner with CIBSE to launch this groundbreaking training programme,” said Gilbert Lennox-King, CEO of Construction Carbon. “At Construction Carbon, we are committed to driving positive change in the built environment, and this programme is a significant step forward in our mission to simplify decarbonisation within the construction industry. By empowering professionals with the skills to assess lifecycle impacts in a consistent way, we can pave the way for a more sustainable future.”

The programme is divided into two parts, with the foundation level being offered for free and open to anyone interested in buildings lifecycle assessment. Over 500 students have already completed the training, and it is available for enrollment immediately. The CIBSE Lifecycle Carbon Assessor Practitioner Training programme will be officially announced at the Futurebuild Conference on March 5th, with over 180 applicants already pre-enrolled. Interested parties can register for the training programme on the CIBSE website.

CIBSE, known for its expertise in building services engineering and professional development, will play a crucial role in delivering the training programme. Simon Parker, Managing Director of CIBSE Services, highlighted the importance of equipping industry professionals with the necessary skills to address sustainability challenges, stating, “As the demand for sustainable buildings continues to grow, it is essential that professionals possess the expertise to evaluate and improve environmental performance. Building on CIBSE’s other work on embodied carbon in building services, this programme will provide participants with the knowledge needed to excel in this crucial aspect of modern construction.”

As co-founder of The Climate Pledge, Amazon has committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions across its operations by 2040. The company’s support for this training programme further demonstrates its dedication to sustainability and reducing its environmental impact.
