Creative Mentor Network, a charity dedicated to supporting socioeconomic diversity in the creative industry, is hosting a free workshop on Wednesday 14th June at their co-working spaces in the Lanes. The workshop, titled “Socioeconomic Diversity in Creative Industries: Who’s Missing?”, will cover information about the current state of socioeconomic diversity within the creative industries, as well as the barriers that are preventing a key demographic from entering the industry.
The event will also feature interactive workshop elements to help attendees realise the changes they can make to make their businesses more socioeconomically diverse. This is not the first time Creative Mentor Network has worked with creatives in Brighton & Hove. They have run two mentoring programmes in partnership with Soho House at the Brighton Beach House location, supporting young creatives from the area. A third cohort of Soho Mentorship is due to begin later this year.
Penelope Richards, a Mentee on the Soho Mentorship Brighton programme, commented, “I think living in Brighton is one the more special places you could explore your creative career, it’s so unique in the way that people express themselves.” Mary Kate Trevaskis, Owner of The Tape Agency and a Mentor on the same programme, added, “What I’ve learnt from Creative Mentor Network was how privileged my opportunities were because I had people that really wanted to inspire me into the creative arts who didn’t mind that I said I don’t know what I want to do and I want to experiment. I had connections that could help me find placements and to get started with work experience. I really enjoyed being able to pass that on and delve into the contact that I have and being able to pass that on has been really rewarding.”
The free workshop will run from 11am-12pm on Wednesday 14th June and people can sign up through Eventbrite.
