European Patient Congress Depression to Take Place on December 7, 2024

On December 7, 2024, the European Alliance Against Depression (EAAD) will be hosting the European Patient Congress Depression. This free online event, designed for individuals affected by depression and their loved ones, will provide a platform for expert guidance, patient perspectives, and practical advice on managing mental health challenges.

The congress, led by Professor Ulrich Hegerl, president of EAAD, aims to support patients in becoming experts on their own condition and foster a supportive community. “It intends to show them that they are not alone,” says Professor Hegerl. For the first time, attendees from all over Europe will have the opportunity to learn from professionals and from one another.

The agenda for the congress includes patient and partner experience reports, keynotes on psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy, and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), as well as tried and tested self-help tips. Additionally, there will be a panel addressing how to communicate about mental health.

This event is open to anyone affected by or supporting someone with depression. It will take place on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 10:00 to 15:30 CET. Registration is free and participation is through Zoom. The event will be conducted in English.

According to the World Health Organization, each year, 40 million people in Europe experience depression, making it the leading cause of ill health and disability worldwide. The European Patient Congress Depression aims to improve care and optimize treatment for patients with depressive disorders, as well as prevent suicidal behavior.

The European Alliance Against Depression (EAAD), an international non-profit organization based in Frankfurt am Main and Leipzig, Germany, is responsible for organizing this event. Established in 2004, EAAD currently has 32 members in Europe, Australia, Canada, Africa, and Chile. For more information and registration, please visit www.epc-depression.com.
