FUJIFILM North America Corporation, a leading imaging and electronics company, has announced the development of a new 4K broadcast zoom lens, the FUJINON LA30x7.8BRM-XB2, designed to provide superior performance, ease of use, and portability at an affordable price point. The lens is set to be released later in 2025 and will be showcased at the 2025 NAB Show, one of the world’s largest international broadcast equipment trade shows, held in Las Vegas from April 6-9.
“With the rapid expansion of video streaming platforms, there has been a significant increase in the volume of video content for various productions such as news, live events, corporate videos, and sports,” said Stosh Durbacz, Vice President of Sales at FUJIFILM North America Corporation’s Optical Devices Division. “To meet this demand, there is a growing need for equipment that can streamline content creation without compromising on image quality or functionality, especially within limited production budgets. The FUJINON LA30x7.8BRM-XB2 will satisfy this demand.”
The FUJINON LA30x7.8BRM-XB2 joins the previously released FUJINON LA16x8BRM-XB1A in the LA series of 4K broadcast zoom lenses. The LA16x8BRM-XB1A, released in 2019, has received continued praise for its compact design (163.8mm) and lightweight build (1.6kg), excellent optical performance, and affordable cost. The new LA30x7.8BRM-XB2 aims to continue this legacy.
The new lens boasts a 30x zoom range, covering focal lengths of 7.8mm-234mm, while maintaining a compact design measuring only 190mm and weighing 1.8kg. This is achieved through the adoption of a rear focus mechanism and optimization of the lens configuration and control methods, developed over many decades of lens design. The compact and lightweight body reduces the burden of shoulder-mounted operation and allows for the capture of various scenes.
The newly developed drive unit features high-resolution 16-bit encoders for accurate position detection of zoom, focus, and iris in virtual and remote production, contributing to streamlined production operations. The lens also offers a maximum speed of 1.0 sec and a minimum speed of 120 sec when zooming from wide to tele end, making it versatile for capturing fast-moving subjects during live sports broadcasts or ultra-slow zooms during live music performances.
By utilizing the latest optical simulation technology and suppressing various types of aberrations, the lens achieves 4K optical performance across the entire zoom range. The lens also features Fujifilm’s unique multi-layer coating, High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating (HT-EBC), which boasts high light transmittance and accurate color reproduction.
In addition to its high functionality, the FUJINON LA30x7.8BRM-XB2 also offers features that support comfortable filming. A single button on the lens provides electronic flange back, allowing for faster and more efficient adjustment compared to the manual process. The macro function also enables the operator to film extreme close-ups without letting go of their focusing hand.
The FUJINON LA30x7.8BRM-XB2 is expected to be available in 2025, with more detailed timing and pricing to be shared as it becomes available. For more information, please visit the FUJIFILM website.
