New Funds Available to Support People with Learning Disabilities and Autism in North Cumbria
On Monday, January 27th, 2025, NHS North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board announced the launch of two new funds, totaling £63,000, to support people with mild learning disabilities and autism in North Cumbria. The funds, administered by Cumbria Community Foundation, aim to improve health outcomes and overall wellbeing for individuals with these conditions.
The Building the Right Support: Transition from Hospital Fund, worth £40,000, is open for applications to support the discharge of adults with learning disabilities or autism from inpatient care and reduce readmissions. This fund encourages partnership applications between organizations.
The Building the Right Support: Annual Health Checks Fund, worth £23,000, is open to increase the uptake of annual health checks for individuals aged 14 and above with learning disabilities or autism in North Cumbria. This fund is open to single or multiple project applications.
All projects receiving funding will work closely with staff from Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne & Wear NHS Foundation Trust. The deadline for applications for either or both funds is March 14th, 2025. Tania Desborough, the Strategic Head of Commissioning for North East and North Cumbria ICB (North Cumbria Local Delivery Team), expressed excitement for the opportunity to support innovative, person-centred projects in North Cumbria that will positively impact the health and wellbeing outcomes for individuals with mild learning disabilities and/or autism.
Sarah Thompson, Grants and Programmes Officer at Cumbria Community Foundation, also shared her enthusiasm for working with North East and North Cumbria ICB to bring forward funding that will improve the quality of life and wellbeing for individuals with mild learning disabilities and autism in North Cumbria.
