We Are Survivors, a leading charity dedicated to supporting male sexual abuse and rape victims, has released the latest edition of its quarterly magazine, Beyond the Silence. The cover features Barney Walsh, an actor who has been working with the charity on a male survivor storyline.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Duncan Craig OBE, announced the launch of the charity’s new support provision for the loved ones of male survivors, called the ‘Supporter Safe Room’. This space will provide a safe and supportive environment for partners, parents, children, and friends of male survivors to come together and find strength in their shared experiences.
The magazine also features an interview with the charity’s ISVA team, highlighting the importance of having an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor in a victim’s journey. Additionally, the magazine celebrates the charity’s work in providing apprenticeships, including an interview with an award-winning apprentice.
In addition to their work with the BBC on Casualty, the charity has also collaborated with popular soap operas Hollyoaks, Coronation Street, and Eastenders. Walsh discusses his experience preparing for his role as a male survivor and the impact of the charity’s work on raising awareness of male sexual abuse and rape.
With the release of the latest edition of Beyond the Silence, the charity also announced a 50% increase in active clients, attributing it to their work in sharing male survivor stories on television and giving silent survivors a platform to be heard.
We Are Survivors continues to be a leading voice in supporting male survivors and raising awareness of male sexual abuse and rape. The publication of Beyond the Silence is just one of their many initiatives to provide support, education, and advocacy for those affected by these issues.
