HEIDELBERG Celebrates 20 Years of Applied Digitalization and 5 Years of AI Experience
HEIDELBERG, Germany, 4 November 2024 – The printing industry has come a long way in the last two decades, with HEIDELBERG leading the charge in applied digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI). Since 2004, HEIDELBERG has been networking machines and systems in print shops, with over 13,000 units worldwide connected to the HEIDELBERG Cloud. This achievement, along with a three-digit million euro investment in digital processes, products, and services, has solidified the company’s position as a pioneer in mechanical engineering and industry.
“At HEIDELBERG, we have been at the forefront of digitalization in the printing industry for the past 20 years,” says Dr. David Schmedding, Chief Technology and Sales Officer at HEIDELBERG. “Our investment in data technology and robotics has allowed us to provide innovative solutions for our customers, and we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible with AI.”
HEIDELBERG has been investing heavily in digitalization, data technology, and robotics, making it a total solution provider for all modern printing processes. With the launch of the Prinect Touch Free, an AI-based version of their well-known workflow software, the company is once again setting the bar for efficiency and cost-effectiveness in print production. This cloud application can independently calculate the most efficient and cost-effective production method, taking into account factors like offset or digital printing.
Since the drupa 2024 trade fair, HEIDELBERG has also become a total solution provider for print shops, offering all modern printing processes with corresponding machines, from toner to inkjet, and from offset to flexographic printing. The machines are linked by the Prinect workflow software, which controls all work processes from the print job to the finished product.
In addition to its digitalized printing presses, HEIDELBERG also has a contract business with digital services and output-based subscription models, where payment is based on the number of sheets printed. This innovative business model is made possible by the company’s fully digitalized workflow system.
To celebrate their 20 years of digitalization, HEIDELBERG has released a white paper titled “Digital Revolution in the Printing Industry – 20 Years of Digital Innovations and Smart Manufacturing at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG,” showcasing the most significant milestones from 2004 to 2024. The paper is available for download on their website, along with an infographic outlining their digital milestones.
“We are proud of our achievements and look forward to continuing to shape the digitalization of the printing industry,” says Schmedding. “With our technological expertise and commitment to innovation, we are confident that we can help our customers succeed in the ever-evolving world of print.”
