The Canary Islands, Spain – The picturesque landscapes of the Canary Islands have become the setting for a new international film project, “ISLAND”, currently in production under the direction of Ukrainian filmmaker Serhiy Skobun (Magnat Media P.C.). This ambitious collaboration brings together Hollywood, the UK, and Ukraine, with the film being shot in three different languages – English, Spanish, and Ukrainian.
Starring in the film is Kevin McNally, best known for his role as Mr. Gibbs in the popular “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, alongside rising British talent Rachel Warren and renowned Ukrainian actor and People’s Artist of Ukraine Bogdan Benyuk.
Skobun praises McNally’s professionalism, stating “Working with Kevin has been a real pleasure – he’s a true professional who feels the rhythm and soul of every scene.” Despite the serene beauty of Tenerife, where the majority of filming takes place, the production has not gone unnoticed by fans of McNally who have been following the team around filming locations, seeking autographs and photos. “The enthusiasm of the locals and tourists alike shows how cinema connects people,” adds Skobun with a smile.
The film, “ISLAND”, is a psychological thriller that delves into the delicate balance between trust, technology, and humanity. The story follows Bold, a debt collector who has lost faith in people and has become reliant on artificial intelligence. Sent to Tenerife by a crime boss, Bold finds himself caught in a dangerous web of violence, deceit, and moral conflict, where every decision comes with a price.
The visual language of the film is built on contrasts, with the scorching sunlight of the island’s landscape juxtaposed against the cold ocean, light and shadow, and life and death, mirroring the inner struggle of the main character.
A unique aspect of the production is the involvement of Ukrainian artist Yevhen Sudyin, who plays a dual role as both an actor and art director. Sudyin’s creative vision shapes the visual tone of the film, blending realism with symbolic expression. “In one of the scenes, gangsters accidentally destroy one of my paintings – and according to the script, I had to fight them afterward. I’ll admit, that was the most emotional moment for me on set,” laughs Sudyin.
“ISLAND” is produced by Magnat Media P.C. (Spain), known for their international productions that combine European storytelling with Ukrainian cinematic passion.
The film has already garnered attention from European film festivals, with its premiere scheduled for 2026. The project aims for a wide theatrical and digital release across Europe, the UK, and various streaming platforms. “This film is not just about one man’s struggle – it’s about everyone searching for their truth in a world where good and evil constantly change places,” concludes Skobun.
