Music Street, an arts group that curates local events and promotes ‘Musical Routes To Wellbeing’, has recently acquired rare footage of the Dudley Moore Trio. The footage was purchased online by a band of volunteers who are not only huge fans of Moore’s work, but also felt that it deserved to be shared more widely.
The footage, which was originally recorded on quadruplex reels used by TV companies in the 1950’s through the late 70’s, had to be digitised before it could be shared with the public. Pete Corby, chairman of Music Street, stated that they were careful not to alter the visuals of the footage, but did have to fix several audio problems without damaging the original soundtrack. The end result is a crisp and clear recording that captures Moore’s musical talents.
As fans of both Pete and Dud, the volunteers were thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase Dudley’s musical talent, which often took a backseat to his comedy and acting career. They decided to put on a special tribute event to share this rare footage with the public. Music Street’s resident film maker, Claire Minett, explained that they chose to host the event at the Hebden Bridge Picturehouse in order to give the footage the grand presentation it deserves.
The event, titled “Bedazzled: A Celebration,” will feature a performance by The Chris Ingham Quartet, who will pay homage to Dudley’s jazz through music and storytelling. Chris Ingham, the band’s leader, commented on Dudley’s musical talents, stating that they have often been overlooked in favor of his fame in other areas.
“Bedazzled: A Celebration” will take place on May 25, 2024 at the Hebden Bridge Picture House from 3-10pm. Tickets are available for purchase at https://www.hebdenbridgepicturehouse.co.uk/movies/bedazzled-a-celebration. General admission is £15 and concessions are priced at £10. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind event celebrating the musical talents of Dudley Moore.
