Greater Manchester Charity Works with Police to Investigate Series of Rapes in City Center

Manchester, UK – We Are Survivors, a leading male victim/survivor charity based in Greater Manchester, is partnering with the Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team to investigate a series of rapes in the city center. The suspect, a 47-year-old man currently in custody awaiting trial, is believed to have targeted intoxicated men and raped them before stealing their personal items between February and July 2024. He has been charged with 12 offenses, including multiple counts of rape, sexual assault, and theft.

Duncan Craig OBE, the charity’s Chief Executive Officer and a survivor himself, founded We Are Survivors in 2009 to support male victims/survivors. In response to the ongoing investigation, he stated, “We are working closely with our colleagues at Greater Manchester Police, aiming to provide our specialist support to all of those impacted by this investigation, including anyone coming forward with information or as a witness.”

Craig also emphasized the importance of raising awareness and breaking the stigma surrounding male victims of sexual assault, stating, “Over the past 15+ years, we have seen numerous cases of male victims being reported in the press, leading to more individuals coming forward to seek help for what happened to them at any point in their life.”

Detective Inspector Paul Davies from the Greater Manchester Police Major Incident Team expressed gratitude to those who have already come forward and provided their accounts, stating, “They have shown unbelievable courage and bravery. We are continuing to support them now and throughout the investigation.” He urged anyone with information or who may have been a victim of these offenses to come forward, assuring the community that all reports will be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated.

For those who may not feel comfortable speaking with the police, the We Are Survivors ISVA (Independent Sexual Violence Advisor) team is available to provide support and guidance through the criminal justice system. They can be reached at 0161 236 2182 or via email at isva@wearesurvivors.org.uk. All contacts will be taken seriously.
