It is the ideal time to experiment with Lift-sharing.

This summer has seen a bumper number of new members join the lift-sharing platform Liftshare, with over 23,000 people signing up across July and August – four times the amount of the same period last year.

This is in part due to Liftshare’s recent collaboration with Esso, which awarded new and existing members with bonus Nectar points and promoted the initiative with an advertising campaign.

According to Liftshare Community Manager Amy Young, “The boost in Liftshare members is thanks to our recent work with Esso, encouraging more people to Liftshare for their commutes and to events this summer. People are keen to do their bit for the environment but only if it’s also affordable, and lift-sharing covers both bases.”

The collaboration has also seen Liftshare team up with Esso’s Thoughtful Driving Initiative, in order to provide help on how to fill up with less impact, drive more economically and make one less car journey.

The success of Liftshare comes at an especially pertinent time, with National Liftshare Week (18-24 September) just around the corner. Last year, the number of lift-sharers tripled during this week, resulting in savings of £393,343, over 1.3 million miles and almost 300 tonnes of CO2.

As part of the initiative, Liftshare will be running a member competition – offering five lucky members £100 Love2shop vouchers between 11-30 September. All participants need to do is add or update their Liftshare journey.

This summer’s success for Liftshare has provided extra reason to celebrate the platform’s Silver Jubilee, and with further collaborations on the horizon, there is plenty of cause for optimism.
