Many well-known faces have come together to support International Animal Rescue’s (IAR) Cakes for Apes campaign. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the deep connection between wildlife, nature, and climate while also raising funds to support animals in need.
Jo Brand, comedian and host of the Great British Bake Offs Extra Slice, spoke about the importance of the campaign, stating, “Whether you’re a business, a teacher or a parent – we need your help to show the next generation how they can take care of our planet and also the deep connection between wildlife, nature and climate. Cakes for Apes is a great opportunity to share International Animal Rescue’s message with young people whilst raising some funds to support the animals. We would love you all to take part.”
Schools are invited to participate in the ‘Cakes for Apes’ appeal and raise awareness for orangutans like Budi, whose journey from captivity to canopies showcases the transformative impact of IAR’s work. Budi was initially confined to a tiny chicken cage but flourished under the round-the-clock care provided by IAR. Now, Budi is thriving in forest school and growing more independent each day, demonstrating the tangible impact of rehabilitation and release efforts.
Schools can sign up for a fundraising pack on the Cakes for Apes website. Additionally, IAR offers educational resources tailored for assemblies and beyond, empowering communities with knowledge and encouraging active participation in conservation efforts. These resources can be downloaded for free on IAR’s website.
Former Great British Bake Off contestant Henry Bird, known for his appearance on series 19, has transitioned his passion for baking to a broader mission of advocating for animal welfare and environmental conservation. Henry said, “I’ve always loved animals, the environment, baking and want to make a positive impact. Cakes for Apes gives me a fun way to contribute and raise awareness about the critical need to protect rainforests and the animals that depend on them. It also helps to raise funds to support the animals and educate future generations.”
The dedicated team at IAR Indonesia works tirelessly to rescue and rehabilitate orangutans, as well as safeguard their habitats through a comprehensive landscape conservation project. This involves protecting forests, promoting sustainable farming, reforesting areas, and creating tree corridors for orangutans to move freely and safely.
Education and outreach programs are crucial in inspiring change within local communities and worldwide. By fostering awareness and understanding, IAR aims to create a shared responsibility for the well-being of our planet and its inhabitants.
The funds raised through the Cakes for Apes campaign will go towards important initiatives such as rescuing animals from suffering, providing round-the-clock care and rehabilitation, facilitating their return to their natural environment, empowering communities with knowledge, protecting and restoring natural habitats, and safeguarding wildlife in their native ecosystems.
Join the movement and help make a difference by visiting the Cakes for Apes website and signing up for a fundraising pack today. Together, we can raise awareness and support for the animals and the planet we call home.
