On 2nd July, The Parrot Society UK is launching Parrot Awareness Week, a week-long initiative to raise awareness and improve the welfare of pet parrots in the United Kingdom. The Society is partnering with UK Pet Food, Petcover Group and a volunteer group of avian veterinary professionals in the endeavour.
Throughout the week, the focus will be on topics such as enrichment, nutrition, and preventative health. The Society will be updating their Facebook page with daily updates, and more information is available on their website.
The week will conclude with The Parrot Society UK’s Pet Parrot Gathering at the Stafford County Showground on Saturday 8th July. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet other parrot enthusiasts, watch flying displays, learn more about harness training and feeding techniques, and visit trade stands. Entry on the day is £10 per person, or wristbands can be purchased in advance for £8 (free for under 16s).
The Parrot Society UK is hopeful that the Parrot Awareness Week will be the first step in helping the nation recognise the importance of proper parrot care and welfare.
