Krombacher has published their latest Sustainability Factsheet.

Krombach, Germany – Krombacher, Germany’s leading private brewery and the country’s No. 1 beer brand, has released its latest Sustainability Factsheet on Wednesday, November 5th, 2025. The report highlights the brewery’s progress and priorities for the 2024 financial year, reaffirming its commitment to responsible business and environmental protection.

For over 20 years, Krombacher has been guided by the principle of “To the good of people and nature.” This mindset influences decisions throughout the entire company, from sourcing and production to community engagement. Sustainability is deeply ingrained in the way this family-owned business operates and plans for the future.

The Sustainability Factsheet showcases clear progress in key sustainability areas. Since 2019, Krombacher has reduced its CO₂ emissions by nearly 30%, and it continues to strive towards its goal of achieving climate-neutral production. The brewery is expanding its renewable energy capacity through photovoltaic and wind projects, gradually reducing its dependence on fossil fuels and supporting long-term decarbonization efforts.

In addition to reducing their carbon footprint, Krombacher is also committed to strengthening circular systems throughout their operations. With a 99% recycling rate and a focus on reusable packaging, the brewery is dedicated to responsible waste management. They also source raw materials from the region, including barley from Germany and neighboring countries to ensure quality and traceability.

Water efficiency is another key focus for Krombacher. The brewery currently uses only 3.9 liters of water per liter of beer produced, well below the industry average. They continue to invest in modern systems to further reduce water consumption.

In addition to their environmental efforts, Krombacher is also dedicated to supporting nature and communities. In 2024, the brewery planted 400,000 trees in North Rhine-Westphalia and expanded their rainforest protection program in Africa. They also provided support to 100 charitable organizations across Germany. Their drinking water projects in Kenya and Malawi provide reliable access to clean water, improving daily living conditions for communities in need.

“We view sustainability as a continuous journey, not a destination,” says Wolfgang Schötz, Chief Sustainability Officer at Krombacher. “We are committed to taking responsibility, seizing opportunities, and actively shaping a better future for both people and nature.”

Looking ahead, Krombacher plans to continue investing in renewable energy at their brewery and launch an ambitious reforestation project. Their goal is to plant one million trees, primarily in the region surrounding the brewery, to strengthen local ecosystems and protect natural water resources.
