LKW WALTER Celebrates 100 Years of Success in the European Transport Industry
Vienna, Austria – LKW WALTER, a subsidiary of the Austrian WALTER GROUP, is commemorating its 100th anniversary on Thursday 12th September, 2024. The company has established itself as a pioneer in the European transport and logistics industry, with a strong focus on innovation and sustainability.
Founded in 1924 as a small one-man haulage office in Vienna, LKW WALTER has since grown into a company with more than 1,650 employees from over 40 nations. This cultural diversity has not only benefited their customers, but also created an open and dynamic corporate culture, earning them recognition as a ‘Great Place to Work’.
The company initially specialized in groupage transport and later expanded into international transport to Italy. In 1984, they entered the combined transport sector, which has been a central pillar of their success ever since. In recent years, LKW WALTER has placed a strong emphasis on digital solutions, driving impressive developments and maintaining a pioneering spirit.
“Our success is based on continuous innovation and a clear commitment to sustainability,” says Herbert Traxler, CEO of LKW WALTER. “We are proud to play an important role for the economy and the population as a family business in Austria.”
At LKW WALTER, employees are crucial to the company’s success and play a key role in shaping the future of a more creative, sustainable, and efficient transport industry. Through close cooperation with partners and customers, innovative paths are forged, driving the transformation process forward.
LKW WALTER has been a pioneer in the development of environmentally friendly transport solutions, relying on combined transport for over 40 years. By using rail/road and short sea shipping, the company achieves an annual CO₂ reduction of over 329,000 tonnes. Their 2030 corporate strategy aims to further increase the number of full truck loads in combined transport and reduce the proportion of empty kilometres. This commitment to sustainability is demonstrated by their continuous investment in new routes and technological advancements.
Looking towards the next 100 years, the four board members, Herbert Traxler, Michael Krainthaler, Alois Höfler, and Alexander Sobota, are leading LKW WALTER into the future. Innovation and digitalisation remain pivotal in the company’s strategy, with the latest technological advances including the digital consignment note, or eCMR, which has replaced 1.5 million paper documents at LKW WALTER.
“Our vision is to revolutionise the transport industry through technological innovation and sustainable solutions,” says Alexander Sobota, CEO of LKW WALTER. “With our expertise in digital transformation, we hold the key to success for the next 100 years.”
