Lyndsay O’Donnell, a former Scotland women’s internationalist, has been appointed as the chieftain for the 2025 Stirling Highland Games.

Stirling Highland Games is proud to announce its distinguished honorary chieftain for 2025 – former Scotland Women’s rugby internationalist, Lyndsay O’Donnell. Born and raised in Stirling, O’Donnell has made a significant impact in the world of international rugby, earning 20 Caps for the Scotland Women’s National Team and representing her country in the fast-paced world of rugby sevens.

O’Donnell’s remarkable contributions to the sport have not gone unnoticed, and her appointment as the honorary chieftain is a testament to her dedication and hard work. She has not only elevated her status as a player but also serves as a role model for aspiring athletes, especially women in rugby. Her impressive career highlights include playing in the 2021 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, where she featured in the pool match against the Black Ferns.

As a celebration of Scottish culture and athletic talent, the Stirling Highland Games committee is delighted to welcome O’Donnell as its honorary chieftain. The Games, to be held at Stirling Sports Village on Saturday 16th August, will feature a variety of traditional events such as Heavyweights, highland dancing, and track and field competitions, drawing participants and spectators from all over the world. The event also hosts over 50 of Scotland’s producers, makers, arts and crafts in the Traders Village, as well as several creative artists’ performances.

Expressing her gratitude, O’Donnell said, “I am incredibly honored to be chosen as this year’s Stirling Highland Games Chieftain. I am excited to be a part of this unforgettable day.”

The Stirling Highland Games committee is looking forward to having O’Donnell at the helm, believing that her proactive approach will enhance the event’s legacy and inspire greater participation from athletes. The gates will open at 10:00 am, and the honorary chieftain will address the crowds at noon to officially open the event.
